Jagged Little Pill West Palm Beach Theatre reviews
For me, it was just ok
I absolutely love Alanis Morissette. I liked the musical arrangements, but I did not love all choices vocally and some of the dissonance choices musically with show, and at other times I think some vocalists weren’t quite on the right note. Now if it was a musical choice to change it up a little by direction in a few places for artistic affect, I still didn’t like it. It’s a tough show vocally, and for those of us who really know the songs in how Alanis Morissette sings it, I prefer to just go watch Alanis in concert. (I’ve seen her early days and more recently-she’s even more powerful vocally now!) The vocals and choices I think need to tighten up. The scene with the overdose choreography I thought was fantastic. But other choreography…and I DO mean choreography (dancers as usual worked their butts off) was ok. I didn’t love it. I think that also needs some shifts and more variety. There were sections that actually just repeated which is fine if it’s specific supporting what’s being stated and said in the story, but in the repetion I thought it was a little boring. It’s like a lot of sporadic energy exhuding out, but lacking reason behind it and supporting internal story. People in the audience FEEL when there’s more of the WHY exhuding out from the heart behind the movement. 2 characters, I didn’t really love their performance, vocally and sometimes in direction I felt like I was watching a high school play. I realize this might sound strongly opinionated, but I’m being honest how I felt about in my observation. I want to be moved off my feet with excellence and detail in a Broadway level play. It just didn’t quite get there for me.
